XI International Folklore Festival - Sorrento & Naples

On our two hours guided tour of Herculaneum we will try to bring the entire city back to life, describing the culture of the time, the role of the family,the religious life with its various temples, cultures, beliefs and superstitions, funeral rites; the typology of the Roman houses. Dating back to the 4th century BC, the city was thought to have been founded by the legendary Hercules. This elite Roman resort was devastated by the same volcanic eruption that buried Pompeii in 79 AD. This is an excursion that cannot be missed, unlike the ash and lava that devastated Pompeii, Herculaneum was covered by a torrent of mud, which protected the ruins from atmospheric agents and illegal excavators. The guided walking tour of Herculaneum will take about two hours, The natural preservation of wooden elements, foodstuffs, fabrics, and architecture provides a fascinating and intimate look into the Roman's private life in ancient times.

On this tour, you’ll uncover the city’s folklore and colorful characters that bring Neapolitan culture to life. Begin in Piazza Bellini, where Greek ruins sit in the heart of the modern city. Stroll Via dei Tribunali, hearing tales of rituals and old superstitions, before visiting the Sansevero Chapel. Commissioned in the 18th century by Prince Raimondo di Sangro, it houses Giuseppe Sammartino’s Veiled Christ, a marble sculpture admired the world over. Next, wander Via San Gregorio Armeno with its artisan nativity workshops, then back on Via dei Tribunali rub the nose of Pulcinella for luck, spot a Banksy mural and soak up the street food scene. Along Spaccanapoli, pause at Bar Maradona, before reaching the Church of Gesù Nuovo. Finally, at the Duomo, learn about San Gennaro, Naples’ patron saint, and his miraculous treasures.

Travel to Pompeii to explore notable sites with a professional guide. On a two-hour walking tour, your guide will show you the Forum, Thermal Baths, Lupanare, Greek Theatre, and the plaster casts of Pompeii's people. After the tour, take a brief stop for lunch before heading towards the Sorrento coast. See the small beaches of Vico Equense and Seiano and the Mediterranean vegetation with lemon and orange trees along the way. Stop at the viewpoint in Meta di Sorrento to see the bay overlooking the sea. In Sorrento, spend about an hour visiting the town. Use the provided audio guide to learn about key spots as you walk through narrow streets with stores and workshops, leading to the scenic Villa Comunale.

The tour will start in the morning with the pick-up from the established meeting point and the transfer by land to the port. Once on board, you will cross the Gulf of Naples, and learn more about the territory thanks to the information provided by our assistants. During the walking tour on the island, you will have the chance to visit the major attractions, like the famous “Piazzetta Umberto I” and the magnificent Gardens of Augustus. In the afternoon you can choose to have free time, continuing the visit of the island by land, or to attend the boat tour around the island. You will see the limestone caves, like the Marvellous Grotto, the White Grotto and the Green Grotto. Many attractions will catch your attention, so don’t miss the opportunity to take a souvenir picture. At the end of the day you will return to the starting point. Due to the long waiting time, the stop at the Blue Grotto is not included in the itinerary of this tour.
